[dropcap]L[/fusion_dropcap]os Angeles California is home to the first temple in California and the 10th operating temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This majestic building sits on approximately 13 acres full of palm trees and other exotic plants in abundance. Situated right on Santa Monica Blvd, it was dedicated in March 1956 by David O. McKay. The Los Angeles Temple is over 190,000 square feet in size and reaches a height of over 257 feet! The angel Moroni at the top of the temple is over 15 feet tall! There is a visitors center that sits directly behind the temple open to the general public.
Local saints were asked to raise one million dollars for the construction of the temple by President McKay. Just 2 months later, saints raised $1.6 million. President McKay said, “It was the largest contribution ever made by members in a temple area.” At the temple dedication, President Noble Waite of the South Los Angeles Stake, said it was “no sacrafice” but instead “a glorious opportunity.”
